Covid-19 Lockdown Displaces 2 Million Filipino Workers

According to Philippine government data, since mid-March, the lockdown to prevent the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak has displaced more than 2 million workers in the Philippines.

Silvestre Bello, the country’s Labor Secretary, said in a statement over the weekend: “The report of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional office shows that the number of displaced workers continues to increase.”

Bello cited the report of 79,271 institutions filed on April 24 that the number of affected workers in the Philippines increased to 2,073,362.
