China Builds Asia’s Largest Steerable Radio Telescope For Mars Mission

China is building Asia ’s largest steerable radio telescope with a diameter of 70 meters to receive data from its first Mars exploration mission, which is expected to be launched this year.

China’s goal is to complete a mission called Tianwen-1 to complete the orbit, landing, and roaming on this red planet.

The antenna of the telescope is nine basketball courts in size and was built by the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Wuqing District, Tianjin.
