Indonesian Police Deny The High Crime Rate Is Due To The Release Of Prisoners To Curb The Epidemic

Indonesian housewife Lila Kusumah, 37, is worried about the safety of her family. It was previously reported that several nearby houses have been robbed this month.

The security guards in her neighbourhood in South Tangerang, outside Jakarta claimed that about 10 people had been arrested.

Residents were also told that 38,000 criminals were released from crowded prisons across the country in early April to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

After hearing the news, Ms. Kusuma is taking extra precautions to protect her house.

She said: “At night, I asked the eldest son to lock the door, but now I do it myself to make sure it is locked.”

“I am very vigilant now. Every time I have to go out to ride a motorcycle, I always look in the rearview mirror to make sure no one is following me.”
