Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Wednesday (April 29) that unless the coronavirus pandemic is contained, it will not be possible to host the Tokyo Olympics Games next year.
Due to the impact of the coronavirus outbreak, The International Olympic Committee and the Japanese government postponed the Olympics last month until July 2021.
As the infection rate of the epidemic rises worldwide, and experts believe that the vaccine still has a long way to go, people are questioning whether this large event may need to be postponed further.
“We’ve been saying the Olympic and Paralympic Games must be held in a complete form, in that athletes and spectators can all participate safely. It would be impossible to hold the Games in such a complete form unless the coronavirus pandemic is contained,” said Abe.
