Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said that the Penang government has never objected to the conditional movement control order (MCO) but will implement it in a gradual manner,
Chow said the state government was prepared to be sued for protecting the lives of Penangites from the Covid-19.
He said at a live news conference held on Facebook on Tuesday (May 5): “I wish to inform Senior Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali that both the state government and myself are ready to face any legal suits for protecting the 1.8 million Penangites.”
On Monday (May 4), Azmin stated that several state governments are unwilling to fully comply with conditional MCOs and reopen most economic sectors, which may expose them to lawsuits from industry participants.
Azmin issued the warning as the Federal Government was aware that several states have decided against implementing the conditional MCO.
