KLANG: A video recording of the alleged act of vandalism has gone viral. The video clip, which is over two minutes long and allegedly taken from a CCTV recording, shows two people alighting from a car which stops at an alley where the portraits were painted.

They are then seen walking towards the end of the alley and are believed to deface the portraits before leaving.

Shah Alam OCPD ACP Baharudin Mat Taib confirmed the authenticity of the video and said the incident would be investigated for mischief and provoking the peace through intentional insult under the Penal Code.

The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has lodged a police report on the incident.

“MBSA views seriously the action by irresponsible parties who vandalised the murals at the Taman Cahaya Alam commercial area in Section U12, ” said MBSA corporate communications head Shahrin Ahmad in a statement.

“Such acts of vandalism are deeply regretted because the mural serves as an appreciation of the role and contribution of all parties, particularly national leaders, who have worked hard and are committed in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Following the incident, he said MBSA took immediate action by repainting the wall with white paint.
