Food chain launches nasi lemak day, gives out 10,000 packs

MALAYSIANS will never forget the dish that best represents the roots, culture and identity of Malaysia — nasi lemak.

In celebrating the nation’s favourite, Marrybrown Malaysia has declared Aug 1 Marrybrown Nasi Lemak Day.

Marrybrown kick-started its inaugural nasi lemak day on Saturday by distributing more than 10,000 boxes of Nasi Lemak MB to customers at 151 restaurants nationwide.

The “first of August” was selected as nasi lemak is often the first dish that comes to mind when one thinks of Malaysia.

It is also the first dish most Malaysians crave for after being away from home for long periods.

To commemorate this day as the start of something to look forward to in following years, Marrybrown Nasi Lemak Day received the “Most Number of Nasi Lemak Packs Distributed in Multiple Locations” title from the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) at Toppen Shopping Centre in Johor Baru, Johor.

This symbolises Marrybrown’s commitment in giving Malaysians the food they love and that the celebration of good things must be shared with all.

Marrybrown gave out 10,000 boxes to mark the launch of its nasi lemak day.

“Nasi lemak portrays the unity and harmony of Malaysia as each ingredient of this dish is equally important, much like Malaysians.

“In bringing this sentiment to reality, we are proud to pay homage to Hidangan Kebanggaan Kita by declaring Aug 1 as Marrybrown Nasi Lemak Day starting this year, ” said Marrybrown chief executive officer Datuk Joshua Liew.

For Marrybrown, the “first” also represents the many achievements in its journey over the past 39 years, including being the first Malaysian-born QSR franchise company and first local halal QSR brand to break into the international market.

“Marrybrown has come this far with all our ‘firsts’ due to the encouragement and support of our customers.

“As such, giving away 10,000 boxes of our signature Nasi Lemak MB is very meaningful.

“Not only is it our ‘first’ 10,000 nasi lemak giveaway but also to say ‘thank you’ to our customers for our achievements.

“This year, Malaysia as a whole has been affected but just like a plate of nasi lemak, our unity, teamwork and optimism for that fresh new start keeps us going, ” added Joshua.
